Kraljevski Winery

In the year 1066, the Croatian King Peter Kresimir IV donated vineyards to the newly established Benedictine monastery at St. Mary in Zadar, which was led by its sister , a nun , Cika, a great-granddaughter of the Queen Jelena and the Croatian KingMihajlo Kresimir II in 1072. 

Ciko bought the first vineyards in Petrcane ( Petrzane ) and since those times the abbey has had in possession the vineyards on their property. And Kraljevski’s distinctive, consistent and smooth wine originates from this property.

The Royal Vineyards are situated on the southern slopes above Petrcare and Punta Scala, and are focused on the production of premium wines from the original Dalmatian grape varieties such as Posip and Plavac Mali.

It is a unique confluence of nature conditions working in parallel that make the vineyards at Kraljevski Vinogradi so special. The location has it all , a combination of rocky limestone soil, and ideal southwest facing slope , full days of direct exposure to sunlight, and a constant circulation of warm moist air from the sea then cool , fresh , inland air at night. Put all together and managed by a talented winery staff.

Kraljevski winery produces an exemplary portfolio of aromatic , fresh, fruity and smooth wines in red and white varietals. The have planted 40 hectares of vineyards.

Pošip

Pošip is an authentic Dalmatian white grape variety whose breeding tradition dates back to the time of ancient Greeks.

It is a wine with an expressed personality, a dazzling golden yellow color and greenish hues. This wine will gracefully leave a thick trail on the walls of a glass.. Its aroma is distinctive with a strong body, which together with the fullness of fruity taste of apricots and figs, is imbued with a subtle hint of Mediterranean herbs. The taste is of fuller structure, exuding freshness and minerality.

It is perfectly suitable for all fish, shellfish and white meat dishes.

Posip Prestige

Posip prestige is limited version of wine made from specially chosen grape of variety pošip. Wine aged for 8 months in 500 L barrels made from slavonian oak. In this wine can still be found soft fruit notes with hint of mediterian herbs and, of course, the minerality that has already become a trademark of Royal vineyards.

Wine has great personality. A beautiful yellow-gold color. Intense, polished, generous and harmonious. A wine with long and powerful taste.

It is perfectly suitable for all fish, shellfish and white meat dishes.

Zinfandel

Zinfandel or Crljenak (Tribidrag) is an old Croatian native variety whose records and memorials date back to the 15th century. It is scientifically proven that American Zinfandel and Italian Primitivo are identical to Crljenak, and they both trace their ancestry from Crljenak.

This wine is fruity, easy to drink, with a soft flavor and an intensive red ruby color. The aromas are accented with the fruity charm of blueberries, blackberries, plums and

raspberries. On the palate it acts rounded with moderate tannins, a very elegant structure with a fine dosage of wood.

It perfectly suits with tuna fish, shellfish and meat.

Rose

Rose Scuro is a very smooth, soft, light wine, of a darker

pink color. By its color it is closer to red wine, but by taste c to white wine, consisting of a light body and delicate aromas.

Rose scuro is one lovely cuvee variety of Plavac mali, Plavina and Cabernet Sauvignon which results in a very unique flavor of fresh, fine, elegant, fruity and slightly floral aroma, of a beautiful body and fullness. Aromas remind us of sour cherries, cherries and strawberry-tree berries (strawberry trees), of native Dalmatian and Mediterranean plants, and we call it “Dalmatia in the glass“.

IT is the perfect wine for spring and summer enjoyment, and it is consumed well chilled as an aperitif or with light dishes, such as simple salads or Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine.

GV Posip

The stone composition of the soil in our vineyard has proven for many years to be ideal for producing fresh white wines with a very pronounced minerality, so the chosen stylistics of this wine is precisely to preserve all the aromatics we received in the vineyard. Strictly controlled refrigerated fermentation and subsequent storage in stainless steel tanks is a winning combination to achieve the desired qualities in this wine.

A wine characterized by freshness and lightness with very pronounced fruity notes in which the dominating roles are taken over by: grapefruit, apricot, fig, lemon.

It pairs perfectly with all fish, shellfish and meat dishes.

GV Plavac mali

2017

the vineyard itself has determined the style of this wine since it is the northernmost vineyard of Plavac mali in Dalmatia. Later harvest than usual for this variety yields an extremely light and fruity wine. The maceration of 8 days in steel tanks and later, the storage of wine in steel tanks, is all for the purpose of obtaining a very different Plavac mali than the usual. Highly modern and distinctive in every way.

Aromas that dominate are cherries, plums, bearberries and wild Dalmatian and Mediterranean plants. Its taste is harmonious, drinkable, full of structure and perfectly balanced tannins.

The ideal wine to enjoy with dishes such as Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine.

GV Rose

2017

The perfect blend of two indigenous grape varieties, Plavac mali and Zinfandel, from which this rose wine was obtained. The ratio of each variety is 50%. Short maceration before pressing is used to achieve a very beautiful rose color. Separate fermentation was carried out for both varieties under strictly controlled conditions in steel tanks. This way we are able to have a balanced wine with a very expressive fruity character.

Wine with the expressive aromas of strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate and rhubarb. Very drinkable and fresh.

Ideal wine for spring and summer events; to be had well chilled as an aperitif or with light meals, simple salads and Mediterranean dishes.

Plavac mali

Plavac mali is the most important native Croatian red variety of wine, of exceptional potential. It was created by crossing the Crljenak and Dobričić varieties. These grapes grow on the rocky slopes in Punta Skala vineyards, which have a southern exposure, and which are exposed to the triple insolation of the sun, the sea and the stones.

It is distinguished by a deep ruby color and emphatic body. The taste is harmonious, fluent, of full structure and has great balanced tannins. This wine is an extract, dominated by fruity aromas of ripe cherries and plums, personable, and luxurious with an elegant ending.
