Meyer Fonne

The Meyer Families Domain has been an exclusively family business spanning three generations. The Meyers are descended from a Swiss family which immigrated to Katzenthal Alsace in 1732. Meyer-Fonne owns 18.5 hectares vineyard including 6 Grand Crus ( Wineck Schlossberg, Kaefferkopf, Furstentum, Sporen, Schoenenbourg and Mandelberg ). Grape varieties are Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Muscat and Gewuerztraminer. Meyer-Fonne is exporting in 20 different countries and their Export business covers 65%. The vineyard covers 15 hectares and seven communes, namely Katzenthal, Ammerschwihr, Ingersheim, Riquewihr, Kientzheim, Colmar and Bennwihr. The soils range from poor quality filtering alluvial deposits ( Colmar ) to rich, deep, clayey sandstone land ( Riquewihr ) with granite in between ( Katzenthal ). The vineyards are operated with no chemical fertiliser , only their own compost with raw materials derived from organic farming . The grapes are only picked by hand.
