Schloss Neuweier

The Neuweier Castle is a 12 th century moated castle property built at the entrance of Neuweier at the foot of the Mauerberg in Baden/Germany. Already since the 12 th century , grape varieties of the noblest kind thrive here on our steep slopes steeped in “Mauerberg” and” Schlossberg”. In particular, the Riesling matures here to a wine that is one of the preferred national and international priorities. The vineyards near Baden Baden have been offering wines at the highest quality of centuries, and monasteries and manors have made sure of that. And such a manor, the lower Schloss Neuweier, has brought the Bocksbeutel bottle to Neuweier. As early as 1615 , the two families of Elz and Knebel from Katzenellenbogen inherited the castle and goods of the Dahlbergs in Neuweier. The following lords of the castle promoted viticulture in the same way as the great ancestors. Since 1869 , the Baden Baden family August Roessler was in possession of the lower castle and its wineries. The made the situation Mauerberg a celebrity and of course filled it in Bocksbeutel. In 1993 Gisela and Helmut Joos renovated and modernized the castle. Since 2012 it is owned by winegrower and winery owner Robert Schaetzle and his family. The Estate currently grows 84% Riesling and 12 % Pinot Noir at an area of 14 hectares and a total production of 80.000 bottles. It is ranked at Baden’s top Riesling producer.

Classic mash fermentation for 14 days with a vinification in large wooden barrel 30% in barrique barrels.

Ruby red colour with a taste of cherries, blackberries , strong and young with elegant tannin structure
