STAATSWEINGUT KARLSRUHE-DURLACH

Above the margrave city of Durlach as part of Karlsruhe Baden’s largest city, raises the Turmberg a streamer of the Black Forest which is 256 meters high. At the foot of the tower is the state vineyard Karlsruhe-Durlach.

The vineyard was founded in 1903 and thanks to the soil which is rich in minerals with a microclimate, the wine disposes of the best pre-conditions for a good quality.

Most of the vineyard is planted with traditional grape varieties typical for the region: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Auxerrois, Lemberger and Pinot Noir.

The vineyard has only 21 acres planted and is based from low yield with an excellent quality in their wines.

The production is now by 50.000 bottles annually, what makes the state vineyard very unique.

The king of white wines with a worldwide reputation. “Der” German classic, a descendant of the Rhenish wild grape. He places high demands on the location, is frost resistant, drives early and matures on the floor for a very long time. In the Ortenau he is also called “Klingelberger”, after a parcel on Durbacher Schlossberg, which was planted in 1776 for the first time sorted with Riesling sticks from Durlach. It is harvested as the last variety in autumn. His wines are appreciated for their sparkling tartaric acid and slightly mineral notes. In the fragrance, his “nose”, you can experience fruity aromas such as yellow fruits, apples, and even exotic fruits. High storage potential. At Durlacher Turmberg the main grape variety.

A member of the Burgundian family, probably a mutation from the Pinot Noir / Pinot Noir. Typical Baden grape variety that thrives best on calcareous soils. His wines are very pale with subtle nut and pear aromas and a racy acidity. Connoisseurs appreciate his elegance. Higher must weights, by grape division and stick relief, give it more aromas and structure compared to the White Burgundy ** dry. At the Durlacher Turmberg the most popular Burgundian variant.
