2016
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14% |
ACIDITY: 4.88 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.3 g/l |
The colour is golden, medium deep. Restrained, mature on the nose. There are gentle notes of oak ageing like caramel, buer, assorted chocolate candy as well as peaches and ripe yellow fruits. Diverse and well-knied. Dry, lush, intense and warm on the palate – stating the full body accompanied with a sense of pleasant sweetness. Rather moderate acidities for a Pinot Blanc. Texture is delivering a clear oily sensation which is easily detected, producing a very mouthful feeling. With a long “salty” finish.
Triton
2016
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 13.5% |
ACIDITY: 4.73 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.3 g/l |
The colour is medium deep golden. Quite gentle on the nose, slightly floral and fruity in the style of ripe peaches, discrete oak ageing is present. It shows maturity and succulence. Dry on the palate. High acidities due to a high Rebula proportion, are nicely combined with a fuller body of Chardonnay forming an enjoyable balance. There are slightly more barrel-ageing notes such as oak vanilla, caramel, on the palate. Nevertheless, the wine gives an unite, long and persistent sensation. With a good ageing potential.
Duet
2017
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 13.5% |
ACIDITY: 5.64 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.7 g/l |
Deep, ruby colour, still young. Intense and youthful on the nose, showing just a bit of age. Colour with tinges of garnet showing bit of development. Intense on the nose. Fully ripe red fruits like cherries, sour cherries, blackberry and blueberry are dominant and accompanied with gentle undergrowth notes. Though made from fully ripe grapes a sense of freshness and liveliness is ever present. Dry on the palate, medium to full bodied. There is plenty of tannins which are still young and could be slightly astringent at this stage but are providing a good ageing potential. Acidities are on the higher side, giving the wine a necessary verticality. Dry, quite rich on the palate, multifaced, fruit intensity and freshness are liaising nicely. With longer clear- cut finish. Duet is a high quality wine which can be served as wine by the glass in premium restaurants and wine bars.
Rebula
2017
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 13% |
ACIDITY: 4.92 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.0 g/l |
The colour is golden, medium deep. Nicely scented in the nose, quite intense for a Rebula, far from being discrete, with lovely diversity. It is reminiscent of ripeness, dried apples, lemon, lime as well, with a nice balsamic and honeyed touch. Such diversity can be seen only in very ripe Rebula. Oak ageing is present. With time and when fully open, a white blossom is joining the bouquet. Fruitiness is not a feature with our Rebula -as well as with other wines in our range. Dry on the palate, medium bodied with high acidities. Intense aroma, tight with oily texture. There is tension even a sense of salinity. Serenely persisting. This one you can try with sushi.
Chardonnay
2016
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14.5% |
ACIDITY: 5.01 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 3.1 g/l |
The colour is deeper golden. Medium intensity on the nose, slightly on charred wood, wheat, vanilla, chocolate, smoke, buer, quince and some other juicy yellow fruits. Dry on the palate, with moderate acidity levels. With oily texture and a pleasant weight on the palate. Intense on the palate with long aertaste. The flavour on the palate is rich and persistent and it slowly occupies the whole palate. Full-bodied, opulent with slightly decent character showing its moderate climate, “salty”, savoury Brda origin not unlike Pouilly-Fuissé or even Meursault. With a long savoury finish.
Tokata
2017
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 13.5% |
ACIDITY: 4.51 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.3 g/l |
The colour is medium deep golden with a nice brilliance. Though young it is already open on the nose as well as compact, unite. White blossom, meadow flowers, wet stone and some ripe yellow fruits are present. A gentle presence of honey shows a bit of development, dried herbs in the back are hinting at the Sauvignonasse grape variety. Very dry and full bodied, with moderate but balanced acidities. Intense fruit character with plenty of character. Long, slightly “salty” finish. Youthful, bit rough now but already tasteful.
Sauvignon
2016
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14.5% |
ACIDITY: 4.93 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.6 g/l |
The colour is medium deep golden. Slightly closed on the nose at first but then opens and gets opulent. This is not a Sauvignon Blanc in style of various primary tropical fruits, but rather in a riper, fuller style with a restrained, but complex aromatic profile. Gooseberries, peaches, wet stone, buer. Dry on the palate, intense, full bodied with a good amount of ripe acidities. Oily texture with in intense and persistent flavour. A savoury Sauvignon Blanc which requires a well-chosen main dish. Can this one be compared with world classics? Hardly. Maybe it is close to Fumé Blanc from Napa but in fact it is in a style of its own, faithful Sauvignon Blanc from Brda. Edi’s!
Malvazija
2018
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14% |
ACIDITY: 4.72 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.3 g/l |
The colour is golden, medium deep. Medium intense nose is ripe, juicy and floral. Acacia, dandelion flower, ripe apricots. Well-knit with fine oak-ageing notes, caramel. Dried herbs are sneaking up too. Dry on the palate, full-bodied, with moderate, balanced acidities. Rich and intense. Oily texture – a trademark of our wines from the premium line is very present. A distinctive style of Malvazija Istarska, quite different from Istrian ones. The later are fruiter and more opulent, while ours is more structured and firmer – very much in the style of Brda. With a long and savoury aertaste.
Sivi Pinot
2018
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 13.5% |
ACIDITY: 4.54 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.3 g/l |
The colour is medium deep, golden with a gentle onion-skin hue. Quite discrete on the nose, delicate, fruity. Red apples, peach, juicy yellow fruits. Also, slightly spicy – nutmeg, vanilla. Clearly revealing that Pinot Gris is an aromatic grape variety. Dry, with buery texture, medium to full bodied with a rather high levels of acidities for a Pinot Gris from Brda. Intense and rich, warm but, not too hot. Nicely balanced. A true specimen of a first-class Brda Pinot Gris.
Kolos
2015
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14.5% |
ACIDITY: 6.1 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.5 g/l |
Deep ruby colour with no garnet tinges. It combines the colour shade of two years younger Duet, and depth of Duet Lex. It gives a very young impression for its age. Careless taster might well be surprised by its nose. Kolos used to be big, bold and very ripe, but from vintage 2015, “less is more” slogan would describe it more accurately. It is still very intense on the nose, though, unsurprisingly, a bit less compared to Duet Lex. Opulence, aromatic diversity and complexity are the keys here. Though fully ripe, freshness is still very much present as well as open fruitiness. Dry, with ripe, grippy, noble tannins and firm structure, which will allow for a slow and dependable maturation.
The taste on the palate is layered, complex and acts like a well-played orchestra. Its aroma intensity, which is not a result of over ripeness or too much of new oak, full body which is perfectly in line with ripe and refreshing acidities, supple tannins – all these are providing elegance and drinkability. So much important aributes for a classic wine lover who to enjoy his wine with food and is immune to critics scores.
From vintage 2015 on Kolos is much more elegant and subdued wine very much like refined, completed edition of already sophisticated Duet Lex. Kolos is now colossal by many parameters. Muscles, full body and over ripeness are not among them. Kolos is a wine produced to be lay-down in a cellar. The patience will be well-rewarded. Nevertheless, Kolos is (almost) ready when released.
Kozana Chardonnay
2016
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14.5% |
ACIDITY: 5.16 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.9 g/l |
Striking golden-yellow colour with a brilliant shine. Almost discreet in its bouquet, yet the richness comes through with complexity and finesse, hinting of buer, wet stones, gentle fruity notes of peach, and caramel. Dry, rich and intense on the palate. The texture is oily, the wine juicy, perhaps even slightly sweet. Despite the full body it is pleasant, harmonious and balanced. A wine vivid with potential, developing into a fine salty finish.
Fojana Sauvignon
2016
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 14% |
ACIDITY: 4.81 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 1.9 g/l |
Intense, almost deep golden-yellow colour. The nose is intense yet not overpowering, which can quickly affect a Sauvignon Blanc, rather it is mature and juicy, revealing ripe grapes grown in a moderate climate. Structured, reminiscent of gooseberry, white peach, hay, ripe tomato, a sliver of orange peel. The sensations all come together through fine, discreet notes, telling the story of ageing in oak.
Dry on the palate, gentle acidity that nicely balances out and grounds its full body. The texture is oily, and despite a higher alcohol content, creates a pleasant tension serving up a luxurious aromatic profile. The taste lingers with a long, salty, dramatic finish.
Fojana Rebula
2017
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 13% |
ACIDITY: 4.9 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 1.9 g/l |
Deeper golden-yellow colour with a pleasant shine. A gentle yet broad bouquet, rather aromatic on the nose for Rebula – just perfectly enough. Intertwining notes of dry grass, dry herbs, toast, hints of caramel, even buer. The sensations appear harmonious, compact. Dry on the palate, medium body, with a nice degree of mature acidity creating a stirring contrast in the mouth. The texture is somewhat oily, and the wine appears subdued and rich despite the full ripeness of the grapes. Intense on the palate, perpetually exciting the taste buds, long, crisp and clear finish. A firm Rebula destined for haute cuisine.
Kozana Merlot
2015
PRODUCER: Edi Simcic | VOLUME: 750ml |
COD: Slovenia | ALCOHOL: 15% |
ACIDITY: 6.1 g/l | RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.5 g/l |
Deep, nearly opaque ruby colour. The nose is ripe, dramatic, reminiscent of dark fruit, ripe red fruit, coffee, liquorice; while also spicy, somewhat smoky, hinting of dry plums and oak. The ripeness of the grapes is evident, vibrant in combination with a delightful liveliness and freshness. Dry on the palate, juicy and compact. Structured, with a firm tannin grip that might be easily ascribed to some other Bordeaux variety, and a fine degree of acidity that picks up the wine. Full body, bold yet not averse to elegance. A long and diverse finish, confirming the wine is yet to see its best days and is well worth the wait, as its firm structure an abundance of fruit make for a fabulous ageing potential.
