PHILIPP KUHN

Philipp Kuhn’s family has lived in Laumersheim since the 17th century. There and in the surrounding villages of Großkarlbach and Dirmstein lie its vineyards. Since 1992 Philipp Kuhn Junior, who was only 20 years old at the time, has been in charge of wine cultivation and production at the winery estate.

“In order to make good wines it is essential to understand your vineyards”, says Philipp Kuhn when asked to describe the way he works. He has always been and continues to be involved in all vine plantings – with the exception of the old Riesling vineyards, which were planted before he was born.

RED

“INCOGNITO”

PRODUCER: Philipp Kuhn ALCOHOL: 13%
COD: Germany ACIDITY: 6.1 g/l
REGION: Pfalz RESIDUAL: 4.4 g/l
VOLUME: 750ml TASTE: Dry

Our Incognito is a dry red wine cuvee from six different varieties. This cuvee wine consists of various national and international red wine grape varieties. However, they don’t want to reveal their identity. They want to remain INCOGNITO. Imitation impossible!
Traditional pulp fermentation and fifteen month of ageing in old barrique barrels made from French oak produce a medium-bodied red wine with wonderful, fruity accents.
But also here for the entry into the Philipp Kuhn red wines already applies: Low yields, a manual grape harvest, traditional maceration and a long ageing in wooden barrels ensure an impressive quality. Incognito is a medium red wine with wonderful fruit accents, not so heavy in alcohol, yet complex in taste. Like all our red wines, this cuvee is consistently dry, but with a soft tannin structure.

Our “Incognito” is ideal as a food companion for everyday pleasures: Pasta, cheese variations, or a hearty snack.

MANO NEGRA

PRODUCER: Philipp Kuhn ALCOHOL: 13.5%
COD: Germany ACIDITY: 6.2 g/l
REGION: Pfalz RESIDUAL: 0.7 g/l
VOLUME: 750ml TASTE: Dry

Mano Negra stands for the black hands that vintners end up with when mashing up colour-intensive grapes. The Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were coupled up for this cuvée whose wonderful cherry, cassis and dried prune aromas are very convincing indeed. This fruity concoction is rounded off by spicy herbal and peppery notes and a hint of gingerbread.

The note of wood that our Mano Negra obtains by maturing in small used barriques is perfectly integrated into its beautiful palette of aromas. A southern type with a lot of charm, who impresses with velvety.

Food recommendation: From the delicate saddle of venison to a simple pasta dish. From well-seasoned, hearty grilled meat to your favourite pizza. Or simply solo! A red wine with Mediterranean character and Palatinate fruitiness.

This wine comes from the Grand Cru Sites “Steinbuckel” and “Kirschgarten”, which are almost exclusively planted with Burgundian Pinot clones. The soil of the vineyards consists of loess loam with fine limestone gravel in the upper soil and solid limestone rock as the characteristic foundation. The vineyard faces southeast. The “Limestone Rock” Pinot Noir is the “little brother” of the legendary Grand Cru of Kirschgarten and Steinbuckel. All grapes are traditionally harvested by hand. The red grapes are separated from the combs and stored in vats. There they ferment for 10 to 18 days. It is then pressed and, depending on the quality, stored in new and old barrique barrels for more than 20 months.
