Ferdinand Winery

The story of Ferdinand Winery begins in 1992 when a teen-aged –  student at the high school for agriculture Matjaz Cetrtic , took over an old family vineyard . By 1993 and with help of his family , Matjaz had prepared the vineyard for the exclusive cultivation of high-quality grapes.

His vision was to build a wine cellar that would offer high-quality wines, and that vision was immediately embraced by his father Marian who offered him moral and financial support and later gave up his own business to continue as wine trader – a role that would best be able to support the efforts of the family winery. 

The first bottles of Ferdinand wine was ready in 1997.

Goriska Brda ( the Gorica highlands ) is a fertile area between the Soca River and Friulian low lands. In the north the proceed the Alps, where in the east, west and south they descent into the well-known Italian wine area of Collio . The Ferdinand cellar is located in the Kojsko village. The vineyards are situated on the northern edge of the Gorica  Hills at 150 to 300 meters above sea level.

Ribolla gialla Brutus

Aroma: complex aromas of dry white fruits, apricot, spice, chamomile, basil, pine resin
Taste: wine with an intense, specific, characteristic fruity taste and tannins
Recommended with: white meat, pork, veal, matured cheeses or on its own for meditation

Rebula Epoca

2018

Color: straw yellow with golden reflections
Aroma: intense and complex, after ripe yellow fruit
Taste: wine with mineral, concentrated, full flavor, which takes us to the world of ripe fruit and Mediterranean herbs, especially basil
Recommended food: will emphasize seafood dishes freshwater fish; so full that we even recommend it to cured meat delicacies of local origin
Serving temperature: 12–14 ° C

Pinot Gris Epoca

2017

Color: the color of old gold with copper reflections
Aroma: the bouquet is quite emphasized, smells of caramel, butter, lees, and juicy yellow fruit, pear
Palate: In the mouth the wine is dry, full-bodied, full of diverse tastes and has a distinctive spicy salty aftertaste
Recommended food: due to its cosmopolitan style, it can be recommended for a wide range of dishes – from Mediterranean cuisine (fish, various types of pasta, white meat), to Asian cuisine.

Rebula

2019

Color: soft lemon color
Smell: varietal – After butter, yellow apples, a hint of dried herbs with a pleasant youthful freshness
Taste: The taste may be dominated by a slight note of butter, otherwise it is a very tasty aperitif ribeye. With a long decline.

Malvasia

2019

Land: opoka Cultivation
form: single gujot, 4000 trt / ha
Yield: up to 6000 kg / ha
Vinification: hand-picked grapes are pressed under low pressure. Cool the must to 10 ° C. After settling for 24 hours, the pure must is poured into stainless steel containers in which it boils into wine. Fermentation is followed by rapid flow to keep the wine fruitful. No biological deacidification. The wine is bottled in the summer of the year after harvest. Color: soft lemon color.

Pinot Gris

2019

Color: soft lemon color.
Aroma: the bouquet is moderately accentuated, after ripe apples, nuts, umbrella mushrooms. Variegated. Dry in the mouth, with a higher amount of acids, the aroma in the mouth also offers green apples, butter.
Taste: Pinot Gris, which takes time to develop in the mouth, then it tastes just fine. Longer. 
Recommended food: excellent aperitif, poultry, mutton, grilled fish.

Merlot

2019

Color: Deeper ruby ​​colors with shades of purple.
Smell : The bouquet is pleasant, quite accentuated, youthful. A blend of ripe fresh fruit and spiciness that offers a clear, inviting perception. Ripe cherries, black pepper.
Taste: Dry in the mouth, with a moderate amount of acids, lower tannins that are nicely ripe, the wine, despite 13.5%, works drinkable and light. Very in the style of modern varietal red wines from the New World. Very nice young merlot.

Cabernet sauvignon

Color: The  wine is a medium-deep ruby ​​red with purple hues.

Taste: Dry wine with a fairly high level of tannins, given that it is intended for immediate use, but they will help it survive for about a year longer. From light to medium body, with a nice fruit charge.
